The O, Miami Poetry Festival continues to sprinkle poetry throughout the city into its second week, with this week’s events spotlighting the unique stories of Miami’s diverse communities. Here is what awaits you!

We Met at O, Miami: Art of Queer Bodies (formerly Queer Tattoo Meetup)
When: Wednesday, April 9th, 2025 7 pm-10 pm
Where: Easy Peasy Tattoo, 729 NE 79th St, Miami, FL 33138
About: LGBTQIA+ Miamians seeking love, friendship, and community will have a chance to build deeper, more meaningful connections in a safe space and dive deep into themes of queer spaces and bodies. Each participant will leave with a souvenir: a matching flash or temporary tattoo with a new friend. Free Event via RSVP here.
Bad Poems: Poetry of Resistance, Defiance & Dissent

About: At this subversive poetry cypher created by Nadege Green & Corey Davis and hosted by Arsimmer McCoy, guests are invited to write and share their disruptive poems that resist, that challenge the status quo, that document past or current fights and wins, that tear down all the –isms. This is an invitation to speak up, to cuss, to not be polite or nice about it, to say how you feel.

Maternar-te
When: Saturday, April 12, 2025 2 pm-5 pm
Where: Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center, 6767 Crandon Blvd, Key Biscayne, FL 33149
About: Maternar-te is an event created by two mothers and dedicated to those who mother in Miami. It is open to all forms of motherhood and to different stages of the journey. Participants will share an intimate space to exchange stories about experiences of raising children and caring for loved ones, despite the many challenges that come with nurturing and protecting others today. Participants will begin with a mindful walk along the Tequesta Trail. This walk will offer a chance to invite participants to observe, listen, and connect with the Earth—our first mother—who provides everything we need to live. After the walk, everyone will sit in a circle with each participant receiving a pre-cut piece of clay to work with while sharing and engaging in conversation.

About: Bring the whole family for a special Books for Free edition of Picnic de libros! Gather for a storytime reading of Westofchester's ABCs of Miami by the author herself, Melissa Gutierrez. Families can enjoy a picnic in the garden and leave with free books to build your little ones’ libraries at home!

Choose Your Character: Clothing Swap & Poetry Pop-Up

About: Refresh your wardrobe and your creativity at Choose Your Character, a community clothing swap and poetry workshop. Bring a clothing item to exchange, and swap for a new (sustainably sourced) addition to your closet. Then, channel your fresh find into creativity by writing a persona poem inspired by your new clothing item.
The Holy Office of Poetic Memory
When: Sunday, April 13th, 2025 3 pm-5 pm
Where: The Light Box Studio at Miami Theater Center, 9816 NE 2nd Avenue, Miami Shores, FL 33138
About: The Holy Office of Poetic Memory is a workshop for caregivers and loved ones of individuals with dementia and terminal illnesses. Participants will engage in the traditional Japanese art of Ikebana, arranging flowers while reflecting on the themes of Heavens, Self, and Earth. Afterward, they will write sunset poems, following the same structure of reflection: Heavens, Self, and Earth. Each participant will create a poem inspired by their experiences and memories.
