Feeding South Florida Celebrates New Advisory Council During Hunger Action Month

On Sept. 26, Feeding South Florida® – the leading hunger-relief organization serving Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties – hosted an event to celebrate its new Advisory Council at its headquarters in Pembroke Park during Hunger Action Month, a nationwide initiative created by Feeding America®, takes place throughout September and is designed to raise awareness about the issue of hunger in America and inspire others to take action toward ending it.

Feeding South Florida’s Advisory Council is an extension of the Board of Directors with the purpose of supporting community engagement and fundraising. The dedicated and passionate group of individuals is committed to the organization’s mission to end hunger in South Florida by providing immediate access to nutritious food, leading hunger and poverty advocacy efforts and transforming lives through innovative programming and education. Presently, in South Florida there are over 1.2 million food insecure individuals, and one in nine individuals in South Florida remain uncertain about where they will get their next meal due to inflation, the strained supply chain, rising fuel prices and increased housing costs among other factors.

The meet and greet served as an opportunity for the new members to connect with fellow Advisory Council members, meet current Feeding South Florida Board members, share ideas and discuss the collective vision for addressing hunger in the South Florida community. The evening included a pinning ceremony and certificate presentation acknowledging the Advisory Council’s leadership team.

Feeding South Florida President and CEO Paco Vélez also led the members through a tour of Feeding South Florida’s warehouse.
