Jeff Conine & Friends Tee It Up for Families at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital
30th Annual Golf Event Raises Money for Conine Clubhouse
Jeff Conine is best known in South Florida as “Mr. Marlin,” a former player and current special assistant for the Miami Marlins. An equally important part of his local legacy, however, is a long history of impact for children and families at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood.
For the 30th consecutive year, the Weston resident and his wife, Cindy, will host the Conine All-Star Golf Classic, a celebrity-filled day of fun and philanthropy on Monday, January 22, at Fort Lauderdale Country Club. The event raises money for the Conine Clubhouse, a hotel-like facility that provides free lodging to parents and siblings during a child’s hospital stay. To date, more than 25,000 families have utilized the clubhouse to remain close to sick kids at some of the most critical times in their lives.
“We count on special events like the golf tournament to provide the financial resources necessary to operate the clubhouse,” said Conine. “Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital attracts patients from throughout Florida and we want to make sure those families don’t face any additional travel or financial burdens during already stressful times.”
Since 1995, the Conines have raised nearly $8 million to underwrite operating expenses at the clubhouse. Nearly 300 golfers will participate in this year’s sold-out event, which is being presented by Custom Rod & Reel.
Alonzo Mourning, Jason Taylor, Dan Marino, Lawrence Taylor, Mike Piazza, Al Leiter, Glen Rice,Dennis Martinez, Pudge Rodriguez, and Zach Thomas are just a few of the celebrities that have previously played in the tournament. Participants will enjoy pre and post-event buffets, receive gifts, and have the opportunity to win prizes that include vacation packages, one-of-a-kind experiences, luxury cars, and sports memorabilia.
