MSC Cruises officially named its highly anticipated new flagship, MSC World America, during a ceremony held at the company’s new state-of-the-art MSC Miami Cruise Terminal, the largest cruise terminal in the world.

Drew Barrymore, Godmother of MSC World America, performed the traditional naming ceremony by cutting a ribbon and triggering the breaking of a champagne bottle over the ship’s bow. Barrymore was joined by Orlando Bloom, her co-star in MSC Cruises’ “Let’s Holiday” campaign, which debuted during the Big Game.

Barrymore, actress and host of The Drew Barrymore Show, said, “It was such an honor to be MSC World America’s Godmother. I’ve had a lifelong passion for travel, which has always fueled my soul and left me with the most awesome memories. Millions of people will create their own memories aboard this beautiful ship, and I know they’ll have a blast experiencing everything MSC World America has to offer.”
MSC World America is the second of MSC Cruises’ World Class ships and introduces a new cruising experience with redesigned venues, entertainment, and dining concepts that combine MSC Cruises’ European design with American-style comfort.

The new flagship is also the first in the fleet to feature seven onboard districts, each with its own distinct atmosphere, amenities, and experiences to help guests personalize their vacation experience.
The naming ceremony was attended by key travel partners, international media, distinguished guests, and executives from MSC Cruises and the MSC Group. The event featured live entertainment, speeches, onboard activities, a gala dinner, and a drone and fireworks show against the Miami skyline.
Following the ceremony, guests embarked on a celebratory sailing, including an overnight call at MSC’s private island, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. Guests enjoyed Ocean Cay’s signature lighthouse show and a beachside DJ party. The next day included further time on the island, followed by an afternoon at sea showcasing the ship’s amenities.
During the stop at Ocean Cay, the MSC Foundation hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new Marine Conservation Centre. The facility will serve as a hub for the Foundation’s Super Coral Program, aimed at restoring coral reefs affected by climate change, and will offer educational opportunities for guests.

MSC World America is scheduled to depart on her first public cruise on April 12, 2025, and will spend her inaugural season sailing from PortMiami. She will offer alternating 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries with stops in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico; and Isla de Roatan, Honduras. All itineraries include a visit to Ocean Cay.
