PINK-O Charitable Foundation Achieves 501(c)(3) Status, Expanding Impact and Support for Women Facing Breast Cancer

The PINK-O Charitable Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing impactful patient support services for women with breast cancer on their journey from diagnosis throughout survivorship, as well as surveillance and intervention for women at high risk, is proud to announce that it has been granted 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). This designation will further the Foundation’s mission and expand its support in the South Florida community, particularly through its alignment and partnership with the University of Miami’s (UM) Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Founded in 2024 by Wendi Sugarman Bieber, a stage three breast cancer survivor, the PINK-O Charitable Foundation serves as the nonprofit umbrella of PINK-O de MAYO, “The Party for a Purpose,” which has become a renowned, sold-out South Florida event since she created and founded it in 2021. The 2024 event, held at Living Sculpture Sanctuary in Davie, FL, raised over $90,000 to support breast cancer patients, survivors and those at high risk.

On behalf of the Foundation, Bieber and the Executive Board presented a $90,200 donation of the proceeds from PINK-O de MAYO to the UM Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center on Friday, Oct. 18. The presentation took place during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time devoted to raising awareness about breast cancer, the importance of early detection, access to timely, high-quality care and Patient Support Services.

The 501(c)(3) status is a significant milestone for the PINK-O Charitable Foundation, as it recognizes the Foundation’s commitment to providing impactful and direct support for vital programs, patient assistance and services through its established partnership and unparalleled support with the UM Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. This status also allows donors to make tax-deductible contributions, enhancing the Foundation’s ability to raise funds and support its programs in various areas of support.

“We are thrilled to receive 501(c)(3) status in just three and a half years,” said Bieber. “This designation is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our Executive Board, donors, vendor alliances and supporters. It enables the PINK-O Charitable Foundation to increase its multidisciplinary approach and effort in two distinct areas for UM Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center including growing patient support services and the Center’s C.A.R.E. (Cancer Assessment Risk Evaluation) Clinic.”

The designation will intensify the PINK-O Charitable Foundation’s reach and mission for additional donor and sponsor opportunities and events to significantly expand various aspects of patient support services, survivorship programs and initiatives as well as support and growth of the C.A.R.E. (Cancer Assessment Risk Evaluation) Clinic for those at a higher risk for developing Breast Cancer.

The UM Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center is the only designated National Cancer Institute (NCI) Cancer Center in the region. NCI Centers meet the highest standards for cancer care and treatments and are known for their scientific and clinical excellence and the ability to have the resources and abilities to integrate various approaches through research and trials for cancer. With this innovation, research, trials, state-of-the-art care and cancer experts allows a plethora of new opportunities to serve and support patients.

With the new 501(c)(3) status, the PINK-O Charitable Foundation will increase all aspects of its mission to make a direct impact for patients in multidisciplinary capacities for supporting, saving and enriching the lives of those who have received a diagnosis, and those that can be prevented from receiving one.
