Quiet Your Mind: Cameron Rogers' Journey to Empower Mental Wellness through Creative Expression

Updated: Feb 27

Cameron Rogers is an entrepreneur, podcast host of Conversations with Cam, and mother of two, who has recently launched her first book, Quiet Your Mind. This innovative book combines coloring, journaling, and self-affirmations to promote mental wellness for adults. Created during Cameron's own recovery from a concussion, the journal encourages individuals to reconnect with their inner child and prioritize mental health. As a mental health advocate, Cameron has leveraged her personal experiences to design a tool that addresses the growing need for effective mental health practices in today’s fast-paced world. In an exclusive interview with Miami Living Magazine, Cameron shares the inspiration behind Quiet Your Mind, the role of creative activities in mental health, and the impact of her personal journey on the development of this unique tool.

ML: Can you tell us about the inspiration behind creating Quiet Your Mind and how your personal recovery journey influenced its development?

Like many others, I’ve faced my own mental health challenges. This book was born out of two practices that have profoundly helped me quiet my mind and engage my hands: journaling and coloring.

Over the past six years, journaling has become my anchor. It began out of necessity when I was recovering from a concussion and couldn’t rely on my usual screen-based distractions. As I wrote, I felt liberated and at peace. Since becoming a mom, my journaling practice has become a sacred part of my routine. It’s an integral part of my morning ritual—a time to fill my own cup before pouring into my children’s. It has become an absolute necessity for starting my day. No matter the circumstances, I always jot down a few things in my journal first thing in the morning.

The second component of this book, the coloring affirmations, combines two other tools that have been essential in my mental health journey. Years ago, I began writing affirmations in my journal and repeating them aloud—“I am worthy,” “I am deserving,” “I am enough.” Over time, this simple practice transformed how I saw myself. Similarly, after having kids and joining them in their coloring sessions, I discovered how meditative coloring can be and how it truly quiets my mind.

Ultimately, this product was created because it was something I personally wanted but couldn’t find on the market. I’ve built an incredible community of like-minded women online, and I assumed (correctly!) that if I was searching for a product like this, so were they.

ML: What role do you believe activities like coloring, journaling, and self-affirmations play in improving mental health, especially for adults?

I believe these tools are incredible and can have a profoundly positive impact on mental health. Speaking from personal experience, they have helped me navigate a wide range of challenges, from anxiety to postpartum depression. Journaling, in particular, provides a valuable outlet to step out of your own head, work through emotions in real-time, and manifest the future you want to create. Most importantly, it offers an ideal way to start your morning without technology—something I believe we all should prioritize.

Self-affirmations, on the other hand, completely transformed the way my inner voice spoke to me. We all have that inner critic that can grow unbearably loud, and it takes time, practice, and commitment to turn down its volume and ultimately change its narrative. For many adults, self-affirmations offer healing to a version of their inner child they may not have even realized needed it.

Speaking of the inner child, one of the reasons I love coloring so much for adults is that it allows us to reconnect with that joyful, carefree spirit of a child who makes time to simply play—something adults don’t do nearly enough. Not only is coloring fun and creative, but it’s also incredibly soothing and meditative, helping you focus on staying within the lines rather than your never-ending to-do list.

ML: As a mother, how has your perspective on creative expression shifted, and how did that influence the design of this journal?

Before having kids, I was a type-A perfectionist who viewed many aspects of my life in a black-and-white manner, never allowing myself to find comfort in the gray areas. Honestly, I often let perfection get in the way of progress. Once I became a parent and realized how much was out of my control, I had to learn to embrace the messiness of it all. It was freeing to exist in that in-between space—accepting and finding solace in the duality of life, where two conflicting emotions can coexist. Parenting can be both beautiful and hard.

This shift in perspective influenced my self-care practices and how I prioritized my mental health. I wanted to maintain the habits I knew helped me, but I also had to be realistic about what they would look like in this new stage of life. I didn’t have the same amount of time to dedicate to them as I once did. That’s where the idea for this journal was first born—it’s designed to be picked up and used as you please, whenever you can, for however long you’re able. There’s no set amount of time per day or a requirement to use it consecutively. It’s here for you when you’re ready, willing, and able.

In the same way, I’ve allowed myself to enjoy the creative process and not take everything so seriously. The illustrations, designed by Hannah Sheridan, are playful, simple to complete, and meant to spark inspiration and joy.

ML: The journal takes a unique approach by combining artistic and reflective exercises. How do you see this helping individuals balance their mental health in today’s fast-paced world?

This journal is designed to encourage people to slow down, connect with their emotions in the present moment, and give themselves the space to truly explore what they’re feeling. The journaling component provides a place to dive deeper into topics you may have previously brushed off, whether positive or negative, and to work through lingering emotions. With the optional prompts, you might sit down thinking, “I don’t have much to say today,” only to answer a question and unexpectedly embark on a journey of personal reflection and growth you didn’t realize you needed.

The artistic aspect of the journal, featuring coloring affirmations, allows you to rediscover the joy of screen-free play, reminiscent of childhood. It’s a fun and creative way to unwind while keeping your hands physically busy—making it nearly impossible to drift into tapping a different app on your phone and suddenly finding yourself 20 minutes deep into a doom scroll. Instead, it encourages you to stay present and engaged in the moment.

ML: What feedback have you received from readers so far, and how has their response shaped your vision for future projects?

We’ve received such positive feedback on the journal, which confirms that when you create something you’re passionate about and genuinely want for yourself, others will follow! So far, we’ve heard from several licensed mental health professionals who are recommending this product to their patients, as they find it makes self-care accessible and serves as an excellent tool to relieve stress, soothe the mind, and calm the body.

We’ve also heard from many people who have always felt intimidated by journaling but have found this journal fun and approachable. That’s what has kept them coming back for more and finally building a lasting journaling practice—which is my dream for everyone!

The feedback that has had the biggest impact on our vision for future projects has been the countless images we’ve received of people coloring while their kids join in alongside them. Although this edition is designed specifically for adults, we’re excited about the possibility of creating future versions tailored for kids and teens as well!

ML: With a growing audience across social media and your podcast, how do you leverage these platforms to promote mental wellness and connect with your community?

My goal over the past five-plus years on the internet has been to remind people that, no matter what they are feeling, they are not alone, and to help others feel seen. While our individual life experiences may differ, there are many shared emotions and underlying connections that we can all relate to if we allow ourselves to be authentically open.

With this in mind, I aim to share the realities of my mental health struggles and, most importantly, what has helped me navigate them. As I work toward cultivating a healthy and happy body and mind, I share my everyday ups and downs, along with tips and strategies, in the hope of supporting anyone else who may be going through something similar.
