The Museum of Discovery and Science Will Unveil Nature Explore: Outdoor Exhibit on April 23

The Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) will unveil Nature Explore: Outdoor Exhibit, a new permanent exhibit funded by the Community Foundation of Broward, the State of Florida and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, on April 23 at 10:30 a.m. The exhibit showcases Broward County’s wildlife and ecosystems and inspires a love for the natural world through immersive, hands-on exploration.
“Nature Explore: Outdoor Exhibit is a natural extension of MODS’ mission of connecting people to inspiring science,” said Joseph P. Cox, president and CEO of MODS. “This outdoor space promotes Florida’s biodiversity by encouraging environmental stewardship, sustainability and life-long learning for all ages. It also complements existing experiences like Florida EcoScapes and the Food Forest, offering new ways for guests to discover and engage with the natural world. MODS is proud to collaborate with so many exceptional environmental partners to inspire the next generation of scientists, conservationists and changemakers.”
Guests at MODS will dig like a gopher tortoise, build a coyote den, and create butterfly wings from natural materials like leaves, seeds and bark inspired by native species—highlighting the importance of Florida wildlife corridors and conservation efforts. This exhibit supports the efforts of the Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation by raising awareness of the need to protect and connect critical natural habitats across the state.
“This new exhibit is a shining example of how collaboration and innovation can cultivate a deeper connection to the world around us,” said Jennifer O’Flannery Anderson, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Community Foundation of Broward. “It reflects the passion of local philanthropists who believe deeply in education, sustainability and a thriving future for Broward County.”
At the companion experience, the Everglades Outdoor Classroom at Flamingo Gardens, set to open in May, guests can explore the heart of the Everglades and learn about native wildlife, wetland habitats and the critical role conservation plays in protecting these ecosystems.
“The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is proud to support educational experiences that bring Florida’s unique ecosystems to life,” said Steven Hudson, vice chair of the Commission. “From Nature Explore: Outdoor Exhibit at MODS to the Everglades Outdoor Classroom at Flamingo Gardens, these immersive spaces help families understand the importance of conservation while inspiring a deeper appreciation for the wildlife and habitats that make our state so extraordinary.”
Support for Nature Explore: Outdoor Exhibit has been provided by the following Funds at the Community Foundation of Broward: Mary N. Porter Community Impact Fund, Mary and Alex MacKenzie Community Impact Fund, The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation Broward Community Fund and The Spirit Airlines Charitable Foundation. Additional support has been provided by the State of Florida and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
